The Studio is a family-owned training facility in Cardiff, the first of its kind to offer small group sessions, one-to-one personal training, physiotherapy and doctor-led health screening in one dedicated facility. Unlike most commercial gyms there are no mirrors, no treadmills and no room for fads or egos.
Our expertise extends far beyond the ability to teach, or demonstrate a squat or deadlift correctly. Whether your goal is to run a faster 5k, recover after childbirth, fix persistent lower back pain or to simply look good, our approach is tailored to each individual, regardless of age, previous injury or training experience.
Our long-term goal is to build a relationship with clients, and help move their focus away from rapid weight loss and unhealthy habits, and develop a positive relationship with training - ultimately leading to long-term success.
After only a short time with us, you’ll begin to feel confident and self-sufficient in a training environment, and enjoy the process of becoming stronger and healthier.
We invite you to join us and become a part of our community of like-minded people, and maybe even our 6am crew.
After years of running his own Personal Training business in some of London’s most prestigious gyms, Owen became increasingly disillusioned with the traditional gym model. He was convinced that the Fitness Industry was broken, peddling dangerous fads and useless quick fixes while failing to meet members’ needs and neglecting vital personal service.
His desire to remedy these failings led him to develop his own training system, that he called ‘The Studio Method’. The Studio opened in December 2016 – a welcoming boutique environment with a strict ethos of practicing reputable training for all ages, genders and abilities.
Lauren began her career as a young gymnast before competing in athletics at an international level. Following her undergraduate degree in Sports Science, Lauren trained as a massage therapist and personal trainer and more recently as a pre and postnatal exercise specialist.
She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience from working with world-class coaches and physiotherapists and enjoys utilising her skills to help those suffering with chronic pain.
A strong foundation in women’s health allows her to bring specialised mobility techniques and corrective exercises to a broader range of clients, helping anyone from elite level athletes to those suffering from chronic pain.
Dr. Alex Aubrey
Dr. Alex Aubrey is our Studio Doctor. Alex qualified from Cardiff University in 2011 and currently works as a G.P. His passion for health and fitness began while competing as a sprinter at national level, and for the past 15 years he has further enhanced his knowledge whilst training with international athletes.
During his career, he became as disillusioned with private healthcare providers as Owen had become with the fitness industry. In the Studio, Dr Aubrey identified the ideal environment to fulfil his dream of providing health assessment and rehabilitation services, in conjunction with Owen’s scientific approach to strength and fitness training.
Alex is a great advocate of prevention over cure and is confident that it is never too late to take control of your health.

Poppy joined The Studio in December 2017. She’s a rescue dog from Cardiff Dog’s Home and as far as we know, she was around 12 months old when she arrived.
Her job as official Studio Manager is to greet every member, although she does have her favourites. She’s incredibly affectionate but don’t expect much out of her during a 6am class.
As a rescue dog, she has a few bad habits, like barking at newcomers and fear of other dogs, so please don’t be tempted to bring your pups in to meet her.
If you are uncomfortable around dogs then please just let us know and we can make sure she stays in her bed during the class. It really isn’t a problem and nothing a bit of bribery with peanut butter can’t solve.
